I am sure you have seen the CBD oils in truck stops that advertise no THC. Unfortunately, CBD manufactures do not guarantee that there is no THC in their products. Therefore, it is possible for a user of CBD to get a positive drug test result if the CBD product they use has THC in it from the manufacturing process. This would be more likely when the driver ingests the CBD product. It is far less likely if they use it topically. Personally, we have seen an
increase in applicants that have lost their jobs due to a positive drug screen.

Cargo Theft on the Rise
North American cargo theft is on the rise this year. In April 2020, there was a 107% jump in cargo thefts compared to April 2019. As of September 30, 2020 there have been 1,080 reported thefts in the US and Canada thus far. GT saw a minor theft this year as well when a driver had cases of coffee taken off in a truck stop while he was a sleep.
It is essential for us to do our best as two major states for cargo theft are Florida and Texas which is a major lane for us. In these hard times, we need to buckle down and make sure we take the extra steps to secure the cargo. Do not park in unknown/unsafe locations. Use pad lock to secure the doors while in transit. Do not leave a loaded trailer unattended.

With the time change- it is easy to get off your sleep schedule with it getting dark at 5PM. This also increased your likelihood to suffer from fatigue driving. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 100,000 police- reported
crashes are caused by drowsy driving. Those crashed resulted in 1,550 fatalities and 71,000 injuries. Keep in mind these statistics are for only the reports that are known to be caused from drowsy driving. Driving while drowsy is similar to driving under influence of alcohol:
- Drivers’ reaction times, awareness of hazards and ability to sustain attention all worsen the drowsier the driver is
- Driving after going more than 20 hours without sleep is the equivalent of driving with a BAC of 0.08% – the U.S. legal limit
- You are three times more likely to be in a car crash if you are fatigued
The following are signs and symptoms of drowsy driving:
- Frequent yawning or difficulty keeping your eyes open
- “Nodding off” or having trouble keeping your head up
- Inability to remember driving the last few miles
- Missing road signs or turns
- Difficulty maintaining your speed
- Drifting out of your lane
